The United States is the fifth largest Spanish speaking country in the world; Los Angeles is the third largest Spanish-speaking city in the world, behind Mexico City and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Census Bureau also reported that Hispanics, who may be of any race, totaled 35.3 million, or about 13 percent of the total population. The United States Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), Hispanic households, at 23.6%, population had Internet access at home in 2000.

Forrester Research (1999) estimates 36% Internet penetration among the U.S. Hispanic population. These figures place the estimated Spanish-speaking Internet audience around 10 million people, and growing.
